SAFETY FIRST
Outdoor adventures involve varying degrees of inherent risk, and while no program can eliminate them completely, Outdoor Programs does its best to minimize risks on your adventure. In order to ensure understanding of the dangers and risks involved in each outing, Outdoor Programs requires that the following documents be read, signed, and on file before going on any adventure with Outdoor Programs:
1. Risk Acknowledgement
2. Risk Release/Waiver
3. Health Form
Having fun is important, but so is playing safe. These forms will be mailed to you in your confirmation packet. Please bring them to the pre-trip meeting. Persons not having the required forms will not be allowed to participate.
PRE-TRIP MEETING
As a participant, you are required to attend a pre-trip meeting, and the reasons are simple: Good planning translates into a safer, more enjoyable experience for everyone. At the meeting, your group will spend some time getting to know each other, do a few icebreakers, play a game or two, etc. Then, your guide or trip leader will clarify expectations, network transportation, help plan logistics, answer your questions regarding what to bring, and most importantly, explain OP policies and procedures to minimize your chances of injury. Meetings start at 7 p.m. and last 2.5 to 3 hours.
AM I REGISTERED?
Once you've enrolled, you should receive a confirmation packet by mail containing important information about your trip or clinic and a telephone call letting you know we heard from you. Please read the information thoroughly before your pre-trip or first meeting. If you don't hear from us, please call to make sure we received your request.
SHARED EXPENSES
The key to keeping trips affordable is cooperation. Administrative Costs, such as, organization, permitting, and logistical support, are covered by the initial registration fee. You provide food, transportation, and personal gear unless otherwise indicated. The pre-trip meeting is the place to sort out who is willing to contribute what to the adventure, thereby minimizing the need to purchase or bring extraneous items. Should items need to be purchased for group use (food, fuel, depreciation on vehicle) the receipts will be saved and tallied at the end of the trip. The cost will then be divided among the participants. We like to think of it as a group effort-everyone has a part in making it happen.
PRE-TRIP LOCATIONS
All pre-trip meetings take place on the UCSF Parnassus Campus unless otherwise indicated. Locations (including a map) are posted each week.
DO I NEED A CAR?
When you attend your pre-trip meeting, your group leader will help you and other participants coordinate transportation, including carpools. The good news is that your group will share gas expenses. The bad news is, OP doesn't own a vehicle, so transportation is the responsibility of group members.
YOU NEED THE RIGHT TOOLS
Some activities require special equipment. You'll need to make sure you have it. Outdoor Programs can help to outfit you with select rental equipment available to its program participants on a first-come, first-served basis. If we don't have it, we can help you locate it. This will be covered at the pre-trip meeting.
REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY
A credit, less a $30 cancellation fee per participant/per activity, will be gladly given when requested at least 7 days before the first class/pre-trip meeting. No refunds will be issued for Outdoor Programs activities.
Credits may be applied to any Fitness & Recreation program or service.
A full refund will be issued if an activity or trip is cancelled by Outdoor Programs.
